The Lie Factor and the Baseline Paradox
Within the history of data visualisation, there have been written numerous books with rules on how to properly visualise data. When Hilje de Boer started off in the field of data visualisation, he read many of those books to have some guidelines he could follow. At the same time, he started to dislike the rigid interpretation of some writers (and their followers). They made it seem like following the rules was the only path to proper data visualisation.
